Using Social Media to Promote Yourself
Many people wonder what to do with their social media platforms once they set them up. Someone told you it is important to have a Twitter account or a Facebook page so you set it up, but then what do you do with it? The secret is promoting yourself without promoting yourself, that may sound strange but it’s true. Think of it as a place to let people know what is going on in your business. As a caricature artist I found one of the best ways to use my Facebook page is to thank the people that I work with. Once I have completed an event usually within 24 hours I will send a note on my Facebook Page which is also linked to my Twitter account thanking the client for allowing me to work with them. Now they may not be friends on Facebook or on the platform at all so they won’t necessarily see it. That’s not the point however, it is for all of my other followers to see it, that’s the point. I always send a proper thank you directly to the client, but by putting it on social media it allows other clients and potential clients to see the kind of events that I do, the type of clients I have, and that I am busy and the train is moving on. By showing that I work with companies like Brinks and Canon at their conventions allows other organizations know I can handle that type of event so hopefully they will think of me in the future. So don’t be afraid of social media, just use it wisely and it will be a good addition to any marketing program.
