Attitude is Everything!-Cartoon of the Week

Attitude cartoon by Bruce Outridge Productions

The Story Behind the Cartoon

People tell me I’m a pretty positive guy unless of course I’m depressed (that does happen). I do the many interviews for my podcasts and events and I have noticed that the successful people in their careers have a good attitude. In fact many of them have mentioned that on a scale of 1-10, attitude comes in at a 5 alone. A good attitude is the key to success in anything, so I do my best to keep my attitude in check and hope you do as well. Remember “Karma” has a way of coming back to bite us in the behind. If you are ever in an ocean full of sharks in a rubber dingy, you will wish that “Karma” was on your side. Enjoy!

March Break Fiasco-Cartoon of the Week

March-Break-Fiasco by Bruce Outridge

The Story Behind the Cartoon

This cartoon was originally published in Road Today Magazine years ago as part of a monthly cartoon series. I thought it was fitting to share it this week as there may be many truck drivers going through the same thing. Often drivers take their kids with them on school holidays and of course any driver with kids this week driving towards Florida is probably heading towards Disney. The cartoon was taken from the scenario of a Mother sending her kids with her truck driver husband to get some peace and quiet. He is not impressed! Drivers enjoy their quiet time too! Enjoy your March Break if you have one.

Toilet Trap-Cartoon of the Week

Dirty-Toilet CartoonThe Story Behind the Cartoon

This cartoon was another cartoon done for the Face Magazine about issues in the trucking industry. Often drivers are delayed at shippers and receivers across the country and need to use the bathroom. Many bathrooms are not kept up to standards or are in need of better cleaning. As more women enter the industry Editor Denis Medeiros through it would be funny if we showed women fighting back by installing toilets in their trucks. Here is the published piece for the magazine.

The Shopping Break-Cartoon of the Week

The-Shopping-Mall-Strip

The Story Behind the Cartoon

This was another cartoon I did for the Face Magazine and you may recognize this person as well. Lisa Kelly is a female truck driver who has also been featured on television shows about the industry.  She is a very pretty lady and am sure gets her share of guys hitting on her. Editor Denis Medeiros who also wrote the story wanted me to show her being hit on by guys as she takes a break shopping at the mall. In the past women on the road had to put up with  a lot crap from the guys. We thought it was funny to show her going back on the road as a twist. Most women are more comfortable in shopping malls. Enjoy!

Rest Area Rant-Cartoon of the Week

Rest-Area-RantThe Story Behind the Cartoon

You may recognize the face in this cartoon as he is from a long time trucking television show. Alex Debogorski was one of the stars of the show Ice Road Truckers. So how did he get into my comic page? A trucking magazine in Canada called The Face Magazine wanted to feature Alex in their magazine in various content on a regular basis. The Face Magazine editor asked me to draw Alex as the main figure with the topic being the shortage of rest area stops across the country. The text and story was written by Denis Medeiros producer of the magazine and trucking company owner. The magazine has since gone under but it was still fun to do the comic page. I never met Alex but from all accounts I hear he was a really good guy. I hope he liked the comic.

Valentine’s Day-Cartoon of the Week

Valentine's Day

*******************************Multiple Girls Can Be Costly***************************

The Story Behind the Cartoon

This cartoon was published years ago in Road Today Magazine. back in the day many truck drivers had girlfriends in different cities. I am not agreeing with it, but it was a reality. I always wondered not only how they kept names, dates, and their lies straight, but how much it cost them when special days like Valentine’s day came around? It must have cost them a fortune on that day alone. This cartoon was created as many of them I am sure ran out of money and had to call their dispatch to get money sent them for fuel and operating expenses.  My advice stay out of hot water to begin with!

The Snow Delay-Cartoon of the Week

The Snow DelayThe Story Behind the Cartoon

Truck driving is a hard job, I know I did it for many years. I have also been on the other end of the spectrum in management and used to get excuses from many drivers. i have been drawing cartoons for the trucking magazines for years and this one was published years ago. Due to the recent events of the ice storm on the East Coast and the freezing rain we had in the region the other day I thought this strip was fitting. If you have ever tried to clean your car windshield with a credit card this strip will make sense to you. Enjoy!

Trip Planning Class by Bruce Outridge-Cartoon of the Week

trip-planning-class-cartoon

The Story Behind the Cartoon

Many of you know that I have a background in the trucking industry and do a lot of work with the schools and companies in Ontario. The East Coast known as the Eastern United States is an area that many drivers don’t like to go due to increased crime. traffic, tolls, and much more. Over the years it has become bad enough that when companies are hiring drivers they will advertise “No East Coast” to entice drivers to join their team. I have actually seen drivers so adamant about not going in that direction that when they buy a new map book at the truck stop they would actually tear all the pages starting with the letter “N” out of their book. The States regarded as the East Coast are New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts,  New Hampshire, and Pennsylvania. I used to run there three times a week so it certainly isn’t as bad as everyone makes it out to be. This cartoon came to mind when I was teaching a class on trip planning as many have heard their share of horror stories.

The Presidential Swim-Cartoon of the Week

The Story Behind the Cartoon

I don’t usually post political cartoons due to the fact that it seems like too much energy to give people I have a hard time believing in what they say. That being said I had to do this one and here is the story why.

Earlier this month I was sitting on a beach watching the ocean and enjoying the sound of the waves. The day happened to be the Inauguration for the new President Donald Trump. As I was watching the ocean on this beautiful day I watched a man walk out of the ocean onto the beach with his wife. From afar he looked like Donald Trump as he had the same colour hair and it was blown to one side from the waves. I wouldn’t have thought anymore other than his bathing suit was the same pattern as the American Flag with the stars and stripes. I immediately thought of Donald Trump trying escape the mayheim in Washington by going through a tunnel and swimming to a Caribbean island. I quickly drew a sketch in my sketchbook which has turned into the cartoon above. I hope you enjoy it!

Old School Dispatch By Bruce Outridge Productions

Old School Dispatch Cartoon

The trucking industry is getting better, but there was a time when dispatchers ruled your life. This cartoon was based on the old system of dispatching when choices were limited. It was previously published in Ontario Trucking News Magazine.
