Warm up with your art before diving into drawing important projects

How important is the warm up sketch before drawing that big picture? Every athlete knows the importance of warming up before a game or event. In fact the professional athletes start warming up days before the big game in the way they eat and rest to perform at their best. Artists need to do the same. You might start days before by thinking about your project and getting your mind in tune. You might start with initial sketches to get your hand warmed up so you draw the strokes just right. This is why many kids in my classes have trouble when drawing because they don’t take time to warm up. Treat your art like an athlete and warm up before getting into any serious drawing.
