I got a bit of a shock yesterday when a lifeguard friend here in Barbados showed me a piece of art that someone had printed off and was trying to sell it to him. Last year I had drawn the guard shack on Rockley Beach and left the original picture from my sketchbook for my friend. He has off that day and we were leaving to return home so I left it with another guard. When we returned this year I asked my friend if he received the sketch and he said, “No.” He then remembered seeing a similar sketch from a guy and was able to bring it for me. I have a picture of me with the canvas so the person knows I know about it.

I have to say I was not expecting it to be my work but not only was it my work but the person didn’t even try to hide my signature. The person had printed the sketch on a large canvas and was trying to sell it to my friend. I am now trying to find the person that did this.
I wouldn’t have a problem if my friend had printed it off but the fact that someone else is doing this an profiting from a gift for someone else is a problem for me. I guess the moral of the story is if you are giving art to friends make sure you give it to them directly.

If you see this artwork or person doing this please report it to me or tell the person what they are doing is wrong. I have no idea how many prints might be out there. Please don’t support this crime by buying a print. I will let you know If I get to the bottom of this. Wish me luck.
