Don’t Let the Weather Take Out Your Event Entertainment: Bruce Outridge Productions

Are you planning outdoor entertainment for your event? Don’t let the weather take out your event entertainment! Now I would say that in fun except doing an event recently there was multiple tornado warnings and I was suppose to be on the patio. This happens quite a bit at events because often the thought is that people will mingle outside if the weather is nice but you always have to have a back up plan in case weather changes and please think of the person that will be outside. Many times over the years I have been asked to sit outside for multiple hours in a blazing sun, which melts markers by the way, or at a table with the onset of rain. This is even more essential in Spring and Fall when weather can change in a moment.

The general rule is if it won’t be comfortable for your guests, it won’t be comfortable for your vendors either. If the sun will be out make sure you have some type of covering. Remember your guests may be sitting for just a few minutes while being drawn but the artist is sitting their for many hours.

Last year there was a wedding in the Fall on a farm with a beautiful setting, fire pits, and more. The whole event was to be outside. After all the guests were seated on the lawn and I was set up on the patio, I mentioned to the organizer it was pretty cool and looked like rain. She said oh there are fire pits for people to stand by. Just then it started to pour and the people ran inside, I grabbed my things and the whole place had to be reorganized on the fly. It had been variable weather all day that should have been thought of, the back up plan.

Recently this happened for a Spring wedding where I was to be on the patio. Same scenario, no fire pits. It had already rained earlier in the day and the forecast called for more. I set up outside as requested and right before everyone came out the rain drops began again. As we flew inside with everything not 10 minutes later the rain really poured and four tornado warnings filled the room.

I have no problem being outside, but please account for the vendors and weather when planning events. Don’t let the tornado take out your caricature entertainment. See you at events this Summer.
