Some Guys Have All the Luck: Caricaturing During FIFA Toronto

What’s it like caricaturing during FIFA 2026 in Toronto. I swore I wouldn’t do it but it happened anyway. Toronto is hosting some of the games of the World Cup and have been preparing and talking about these games for a long time. The bidding for hosting, the upgrades to the stadium, and buzz of the city all have created a hype for the games and a warning for residents to stay away. All we have been hearing is about road closures, public transit changes, and warning that crowds will be out of this world. This is a big deal for a host city and Toronto has taken out all the stops.

Being based out of a city to the west and travelling to the city is a major deal no matter what time of year. There are always events going on and construction when nothing is happening. So we as a company said we are going to just stay away from Toronto during this time as the challenges of travelling to the city can be frustrating. So that was the plan! Then it happened, the bookings began to role in. The first one, right downtown Toronto, then the airport, and so on. Soon we had three or four events all booked around that time.

Recently I did the first event in Toronto the night the World Cup was kicking off and the day before the Toronto event. Not knowing about parking I decided to train it to the city. Hauling my equipment in a bag can be challenging as I keep a lot of gear in my car. I managed to fit my equipment in to a bag and headed off to the city by train. That’s where the trouble started!

The event went well and I certainly got a good workout dragging that bag around the city. By the time I returned home late that night the wheel on the bag had totally disappeared so I was dragging a bag with one wheel weighted down with gear all over Toronto, not sure why I went to the gym that morning. What’s worse is we probably have several suitcases at home I could have used and I even tried to buy a bag, but could not find a store that sold one on my travels. Needless to say I’ll be taking the car next time! We shall see how the future events go during the World Cup and oh yeah-GO Canada Go!
