For over 20 years I have been told I should follow one path. Unfortunately being a creative person can be challenging because often we have a number of elements inside us that can make a creative person talented in more than one area. If that’s you then know it is okay to do more than one thing. Guitarist Ronnie Wood of the Rolling Stones is an amazing coloured pencil artist. The famous Tony Bennett was as much a portrait artist as an amazing crooner. There are many talented artists at all levels of art that have multiple talents. Some are known for their visual art and some for their music or other talent.
Although I was a drummer in my teens I am certainly not a musician, but I do love music. Over the last decade I have started a podcast, a radio station, and a television show in continuation with my art. Yes I do too much. Over the years you learn to just enjoy what you like to do and disregard the rest. Sometimes you find ways to combine those talents and create something new. Welcome to Caricatures and Classics.
Over the last couple of years I have been designing a new service which combines my love of music and being a DJ with my love of drawing and being a caricature artist. It takes a bit of organization on my end but it is a lot of fun. How does it work? Attendees fill out a ballot with their three favourite songs and put it in a bowl. If I choose their ballot I play their songs while drawing their caricature digitally. Not everyone will get drawn but the audience gets to watch the drawing being done so there is visual entertainment and musical entertainment.
So if you do more than one thing as an artist know it is okay to have multiple talents, maybe think about combining those to create something new.
