Graphic Recording Makes a Comeback

Graphic Recording is making a comeback! Graphic Recording was popular before the pandemic. If you don’t know what Graphic Recording is it is the process of recording or illustrating a presentation or meeting as it is being presented live. The presentation is presented to an audience and within that audience is a person drawing out what is being said in visual form. The Visual Recording is then posted for attendees to see and reflect on.

What are the benefits of having Graphic Recording done?

There are a number of benefits to having a Graphic Recording done. If you are bringing in a speaker for your event with an important message this helps you highlight the important parts of the presentation for attendees to see. The visual nature of Graphic Recording allows the information to be absorbed in another form allowing for a deeper understanding. Recordings are usually posted and shared allowing for additional discussions and entertainment at events.

Who Gets the Graphic Recording?

The Graphic Recordings are usually done on large size boards or papers that will be posted in a common area for attendees to reflect on. This is very popular as it allows for further discussion or reflection and people enjoy taking pictures with the recordings. The Graphic Recordings are the property of the event organizer but if they don’t need them they are often given to the presenter as a gift. This is very valuable to a speaker to see how the presentation was received. The Recordings can be photographed and shared via email for discussion back at the office and many times a video is created of the process that can also be shared.

Can any artist do Graphic Recording?

Not every artist conducts Graphic Recording. Knowing how to draw is one thing, but the real challenge is being able to organize information and break down a presentation into smaller bites. Just like artists specialize in different areas of illustration Graphic Recording is the same way. It helps that I used to be a professional speaker years ago and understand how a presentation should be assembled, but even then every session is different. You also need to be sure you understand the material being presented. I recently turned down a medical presentation opportunity because I didn’t understand the material that was going to be presented.
