It was good to be back at the Sheraton Gateway Hotel recently drawing caricatures of travellers on a quick layover at the airport hotel. The Sheraton Gateway Hotel is attached to the Toronto International Airport and a few times per year the team put on a special event for people staying at the hotel. They hold the event for a couple of hours in the lobby of the hotel and hotel guests can participate at no charge. Over the years they have celebrated Halloween, Valentines Day, Family Day, and Canada Day.
This time they were celebrating Valentine’s Day and Family Day at the same time. They had me drawing caricatures of guests, a chocolate fountain, fruit trays, games, and photo booth. The fun for me is talking with the passengers about their travels as I have travelled for most of my life.
I often think it would be fun to just show up at the airport and choose a destination or go without any planning. Since I don’t have that type of money I guess I will have to rely on watching the board.
