Tips for Sketching on Location

Art tip-Sketching on Location

When sketching on location choosing a spot to sketch can be a daunting task so here are things to look for when choosing a location.

Subject: Interesting Subject

The subject matter you choose to sketch is totally your call and choice. To make it more interesting try to choose a subject that offers you items in the foreground, main subject in the middle ground, and simple background. That will offer depth to your drawing.

Comfort: Be Comfortable

Your sketch will only last as long as your comfort level will allow. Standing or planning to sit on a pointed rock will make you hurry through your sketch and not do as comfortable a job as you may wish. I like to carry a fold up chair with me light enough to walk with.Sketching on Location

Onlookers: People love to watch artists work.

If you are shy or prefer to not to have people watch you work finding a corner of coffee shop or other space tucked away may offer your shelter from people. Just mindful of those around you as we artists get deep into our work and can often forget that others are around.
