Recently I had the pleasure of caricaturing a birthday celebration for birthday girl Nita in Burlington Ontario at the newly built Pearle Hotel. Twenty four friends got together to throw a small but beautiful party for Nita.
As a caricature artist you get to see all types of events, some more memorable than others. Also as a caricature artist you can find yourself in some slightly uncomfortable situations, such as during the gift giving portion the conversation got quite “feminine” as we say and I almost felt like I should excuse myself from the room.
The best part was when the ladies were asked to write down and present one thing that birthday girl Nita has meant to them. This touching moment had beautiful dedication to Nita with many in tears at the pure level of love in the room. Nita certainly was loved by her friends and family. As I listened to the memories and drew the odd person not yet up for their turn the room was silent and most were weeping.
Just then her husband and son bounce in the room, flowers in one hand, and boom box in the other with the latest pumping rap song booming loud. The room transforms from a quiet touching moment to full on dance party in a moment. Finally getting the party back to a quiet moment after some time and continuing the readings someone else’s husband burst into the room throwing the party into chaos again! Personal note-DON’T LET GUYS INTO THE PARTY! Congrats to Nita on reaching 50 with beautiful people around you.
