Work from the heart in your art

In my classes I see many kids trying to recreate the latest science fiction tale through their art. Now don’t get me wrong there is nothing wrong with that, however you will find more success from working from your own life. Now I am not saying don’t create something that you love, just try to change it so it is based on your own ideas and values.

For instance I have worked in the transportation sector for many years before starting my own business in illustration. If you go to my websites and look at my art you will notice much of it is on trucks, and the life of a professional truck driver. The Pride Junkie Comic Series is a prime example. The hero is a truck driver and changes into the Pride Junkie when it is time to save someone. The stories in the comic series are based on real situations to a point that I experienced when on the road all of those years.

So if you are trying to come up with a new idea, story, or series for your art look inside of yourself then change it into the type of story that you would like to make. You will find it easier to write, more fulfilling to create, and more successful when finished because it will be closer to your heart. I wish you luck!
